For everyone involved, foster care is a tough road. And few causes other than foster care are better illustrated by a muddy Warrior Dash. For their safety, children are unexpectedly removed from their home and their world is turned upside down. The next morning they awaken to a new reality and loss. Foster care is not only tough for the child, it takes grit for foster parents, too. Yet when you talk to foster parents, they knowingly sign up to welcome and love a child with no idea of the outcome. They love a child wholeheartedly and then, the majority of the time, they let that child go.
So that’s why we’ll race again—it’s tough. We hope in its own way, our efforts in fund-racing highlight the challenging commitment of foster families and raise essential funds to support these families and the children they serve. There are not enough families for Georgia’s more than 13,000 children in foster care. Promise686’s goal is to plant foster care ministries in churches, raising up hundreds of new foster families – 158 so far! So while Promise has over 1,800 volunteers currently serving via 152 church partners, we require ongoing resources to equip many more churches, families, and volunteers.
The 2018 Tough Campaign is underway – 200 runners conquering 5K and 11+ obstacles! Last year (pictured above) we received almost 700 individual donations, were honored to have 21 corporate sponsors, and awareness was raised! All of this energy brings much needed attention to Georgia’s foster care crisis! Our goals for growth and impact in 2018 are high – to fully reach across the state and continue our expansion beyond. We’ll need your help to keep the momentum going for greater impact. Coupling these hard-won resources with a solid solution that addresses the urgent needs of displaced children, God-willing our efforts again this year will lead to the best possible outcome – more loving homes for waiting children. That’s the point—the reason we run! It’s tough, it’s worth it, and we’re ready to do it all over again next year because children need families! Thank you for supporting our Tough Team!
