It’s a tough road. And few causes could align better with a Tough Mudder than foster care. For their safety, children are unexpectedly removed from their home and their world is turned upside down. The next morning they awaken to a new reality and loss. The road of foster care is not only tough for the child, it’s tough for foster parents, too. Yet when you talk to foster parents, they knowingly sign up to welcome and love a child with no idea of the outcome. They love a child wholeheartedly and then, the vast majority of the time, they let that child go.
So that’s why we signed up for this race—it’s tough. We hope in its own way, our efforts to fundraise and run highlight the challenging commitment of foster families and raise essential funds to support these families and the children they serve. There are not enough families for Georgia’s almost 14,000 children in foster care. Promise686’s goal is to plant foster care ministries in individual churches, raising up hundreds of new foster families – 112 so far! So while Promise has over 1200 volunteers currently serving via 119 church partners, we require ongoing resources to equip many more churches, families, and volunteers.
This year’s Tough race was fantastic – 100 runners, 12 miles and 20+ obstacles! To date we’ve received almost 700 individual donations, are honored to have 21 corporate sponsors, and awareness has been raised. All of this energy brings much needed attention to Georgia’s foster care crisis, yet our goals are even higher for our 2017 growth of mission and reach across the state and beyond. We’ll need your help to keep the momentum going for greater impact. Coupling these hard-won resources with a solid solution that addresses the urgent needs of displaced children, God-willing our efforts again this year lead to the best possible outcome – more loving homes for waiting children. That’s the point—the reason we run! It’s tough, it’s worth it, and we’re ready to do it all over again next year!
Will you support our Tough Team?!
