There are not enough families for Georgia’s now more than 14,000 children in foster care. Promise686’s perpetual goal is to plant foster care ministries in churches, raising up hundreds of new foster families! So while Promise has thousands of volunteers currently serving via church partners, we require ongoing resources to equip many more churches, families, and volunteers. We’re inviting you to “get tough” for kids who need a home!
For everyone involved, foster care is a tough road. And few causes other than foster care are better illustrated by a muddy Warrior Dash or a difficult triathlon. For their safety, children are unexpectedly removed from their home and their world is turned upside down. The next morning they awaken to a new reality and loss. Foster care is not only tough for the child, it takes grit for foster parents, too. Yet when you talk to foster parents, they knowingly sign up to welcome and love a child with no idea of the outcome. They love a child wholeheartedly and then, the majority of the time, they let that child go.
So this is why we will fun-race again in 2020—it’s tough and getting tougher. Our goals for growth and impact remain high–to fully reach across our state and continue beyond to help churches nationwide tackle this issue. We’ll need your help to keep momentum!
Thank you for supporting our Tough Team in 2018! It was awesome – 202 runners conquered 5K and 11+ obstacles! All of this energy brought much needed attention to Georgia’s foster care crisis! Coupling these hard-won resources with a solid solution that addresses the urgent needs of displaced children, God-willing our efforts led to many positive outcomes – connection and belonging for waiting children. It’s tough – and every child in a tough situation is worth it!
